I will. My hope is to have parts by this weekend. I'll mock up a quick test and let you know.

    Cheers, Scott

Enclosure v1.0 progress.... v2.0 is going to be made from two pieces of 1/8" polycarb, bent to work with the handle mounts. The drawing is done but no work has been started.

    Hi Rob,

Did you have any trouble using the Arafruit libraries? I have yet to get a good compile. Did you make any changes to the library files?

    Thanks, Scott

No changes needed... I have been doing all the code in arduino IDE 22. I'm not sure if the nokia lib is ported for anything newer.

Let me know if this helps.

*edit* I have attached the library files I was using.

That was it. I'm not sure what's different but thank you very much. Now to fix the xbees.

    Cheers, Scott

    No prob.

Today was 34*F and only lightly snowing with a 10mph wind... So instead of staying in, being warm and working on the telemetry, I went out and flew and froze... Had to call it quits after 2 batteries because I couldn't feel the sticks. lol

    Hi Rob,

I get the flying in the cold. Everything works so well except the fingers. By the way, what part of the world are you in?

    A little progress report:

I got the Nokia 5110 working (finally). I could only get the pcdtest to work for the longest time. Thanks again for the files. Now I've got to finish it.

I've decided to power the monitor from the transmitter. I use charger that pulses negative which required the bypassing of the reverse polarity power diode incorporated power plug. By passing the diode I get transmitter battery voltage at the plug. My plan is to run it to the monitor and use a LM2937 3v3 voltage regulator to power the set. Yes, it will reduce some of the transmitter time but it keeps things simple and I can always turn it off. A bonus to using external power is reduction in weight and size.

The Fio seems to work fine. It is certainly simple to use as long as you remember to pull the xBee when you want to program it (hung me up a few times). I've got some wiring details to sort out but this is what I've got so far:

I'm probably going to use your idea of standoffs to mount it but I've got to figure out how to support it with it getting in the way of the upper switches. More on that later.

To the right of the screen I'll add the 5 way switch and I was thinking of adding a few LEDs to indicate Mode, Hold and other indications when available. I was also wondering if we can drive a "link" indicator similar to the indicator on the Sparfun USB adapter.

Anyway, that's where I am. You'll have to tell me how your test went today (before your finger froze, of course).

    Cheers, Scott

I live in Connecticut Scott. No testing today, just flying for fun. Maybe tomorrow I'm going to do the range test.

Yes there is a way to have an LED light for connection.... I just have look into which pin on the Xbee it is.

Here is my idea toward the 5way switch. For now it's double stick taped but after I investigate what is inside the tx behind the switch, I may stick it in the tx case and have only the little nub showing. Not sure at the moment so the double stick tape will do. The nice thing about this is that it does not require my hands to leave the TX, I placed the switch so that it could easily be moved by my middle finger with both thumbs still on the sticks!

By the way Scott, Great Progress! I'm kinda jealous of the Fio. It seems like the perfect controller for this project.

    Hi Rob,

Just a few more pictures showing mounting. I used your stand off idea. I had an obvious advantage because of the weight.

    Love it.

Here is a PDF for the nokia screen to aid with cutting out the enclosure. Sorry Scott!, I thought I would have had some time to get this up before you got the enclosure. Oh well.

Make sure you print it out with no scaling.
