Well you don't actually need those extra channels. Ch5 is for changing flight mode from Acro to Stable and stable mode is not working currently so you don't need it. Ch6 is ment to use for gain control but also not in use on current software.

About your R/C Radio, make sure that you do NOT have any heli swash plate mixing or any other mixing running on it while flying and configuring AeroQuad. If you do have, you will have all type of stability/flying problems with it. You should be able to switch it of from your radios menus.

Later on when stable more is working again, you can connect receiver ch5. If I remember correctly it was pin nr. 7 in arduino duemilanove that you use for mode. You can find this info from wiring diagram and from AQ tutorial manual.

If there is no mixing being done in the TX or RX that can't be disabled then it might be ok.

So will there be any problem if I do not connect the AUX and GEAR....That is Channel 5 and channel 6...

    Will it be really safe....??

I hope if the channel 5 and channel 6 is not connected then the quad will be in the aerobatic mode only..

    Please explain..

Nemo4all, you shouldn't have any problems. You won't see any response from those channels in the configurator, but the 4 main channels should work just the same.

How would one find out if it has mixing or not? I've tried to do some research, but haven't found too much. I found a couple posts here:

    http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=611167
    http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=728078 (lots of info)

I think it would be great to know if it works for starting out purposes...

In the long run, I don't know if 300 feet is going to be good enough (see second post). I know that my CX2 washed well over a football field away at about 100 feet up one day from a 2 mph gust where it just dropped to the ground breaking all of the replaceable parts; I certainly think it's worth spending a few hundred dollars more on a radio than to mod the LP5DSM for greater distance, break it, and have to buy another one anyway. I'm am really scared to build this aeroquad, strap on a few hundred dollar camera to wind up breaking everything because I didn't want to save a couple hundred bucks. My 2

I've connected my Futaba 6EX-PCM 72MHz radio/receiver and got it working. Although it has much more jitter than the Spektrum DX7, it is nevertheless working. So two radio systems that I have tested firsthand.
