    Hex Frame Build Log

    And it begins.

    Not going to be done overnight, but will post progress and CAD files here as it progresses.

    Arms are the 24" Towel bars from Home Depot. Each arm is 11.875" long.

    6 BP 2217-9 motors matched to 6 Phi Fun I2C motors with 10x4.7 slo flyer props

    Not the best file, but here's a pdf file of the preliminary design. Got a few more thngs to do, and when it's been checked, I'll post the CAD files.

    Here's a zip file containing two dxf files. One has a stork looking landing gear that would allow hanging a camera underneath it, ArduPirate inspired. The second has a Trex 600E landing gear. Both gear mount to the same mounting holes, so the bottom plate is universal.

    So many well-thought details, congratulations. This frame design is the only one that has mounting holes for Arduino Mega and is optimized for AeroQuad shield 2. For those (like me) who are more comfortable with 2D than 3D attached are PDF versions, it can be easily modified for quad instead of hex.

    Some progress, and a major change in direction. Alan and I have been discussing vibration problems, so I decided to re-design the frame, using the AeroFPV frame as inspiration. So here is the drawing for the redesigned center plate, and the real deal. Plates are probably way overkill, but it was material on hand. They are 1/4" birch aircraft ply, with 3/32" inlays for the arms. I'm thinking that 3/16" thick ply would be more than adequate. Next up designing the speed controller tray.

    Are the arms just pressed in there between? And what's preventing them to move sideways? It seems the screws don't touch the sides of the arms.
